About the Artist:
Valetango re-signifies Argentine Tango by stripping it to its bare bone and committing to a new aesthetic sensibility that can tell non-traditional stories. Valetango was a natural outgrowth of Ms. Solomonoff’s first company: TangoMujer, the first all-female tango dance company in the world, which influenced a generation that was thirsty for the seeing the way an old gender-charged dance could become contemporary. This time including men, Valetango developed shows that focused, with humor and wit, on gender dynamics of the social dance floor and the conflicts it creates. “Tango por Ellos” received an ACE award for Best Choreography and another ACE award for Best Dancer. Tango Intimo was nominated for an ACE award for Best Direction and another for Best Production. Valetango’s new production “Trust me. Trust me not” has started as a research project thanks to a Fellowship at Center for Ballet and The Arts, NYU and continue through residencies at “Aire” Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, “Danspace” at Judson Church and at Windhover Performing Arts Center, Rockport, Mass. www.valetango.com
